the answer to number 3 is first you fill up the 3 gallon container then you empty the 3 gallons into the 5 gallon container so you're left with space for 2 gallons in the 5 gallon container. Then you fill up the 3 gallon container again and pour enough into the 5 gallon container which only need 2 gallons and 2 gallons out of three leaves you with only 1 gallon in the 3 gallon container!
